Marthrown of Mabie

Set in the middle of Mabie Forest near Dumfries in beautiful Dumfries & Galloway, Marthrown is the ideal venue for a wedding or civil partnership. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that they are not traditional!

We have had both Religious Ceremonies and Humanist Ceremonies; some in the heart of the forest, some in the open air by the Hot Tub (so far none actually IN the hot tub but who knows!), in a soul pad in the snow and most popular of all in, or next to, the Celtic Roundhouse - everyone has their dream idea for a place to tie the knot - what's yours?

Catering options are equally as varied from our Special Hog Roast (cooked the old fashioned way for 12 hours over 2 open log fires - quite a spectacle) to a Vegan BBQ and pretty much everything in between.

For Entertainment we have had Ceilidh bands, Rock bands, Folk bands and DJs. At one wedding the rings were delivered by a Barn Owl, which swooped in over the guests with the rings attached to his leg, and then the guests enjoyed Ferret Racing, which was so much fun that the wedding photographer booked it for her hen party here.

We had one wedding festival which lasted for 5 days where the couple and their friends enjoyed 3 days of outdoor pursuits activities before the main celebrations began (and apparently it still cost less than the average one day event).

It really does depend on what's in your dreams but you can guarantee that it will be an event which people will remember for years to come because Marthrown is a unique place.

For accommodation we have 26 beds in the Bunkhouse in 4 rooms (5,6,7 & 8 bedded), 16 in the Roundhouse (though this is usually used as the party venue), 4 in the Tipi and 4 in the Yurt (unless one of these is reserved for the honeymoon suite!) plus plenty of camping space for the more outdoor types.

We are only 1 mile away from Mabie House hotel which is ideal for the more mature guests (and a very popular venue for traditional weddings). There are also a selection of very good B&Bs nearby. We have marques and tables to accommodate 120
