It's that time of year again, when people up and down the country are finally biting the bullet and proposing to their loved ones! A recent survey by Chillisauce claims that 40% of proposals are expected over the Christmas period with two of the key reasons being romance and family. Looking at specific days, the survey of 10,000 people found that 31% of people thought Christmas Eve was the best day to propose, with Valentine's day coming in at 22% and New Year's Eve (good luck tonight!) at 18%.
Interestingly, the statistics hide a disparity between men and women's thinking! Men much preferred Christmas Eve. Some of their more lighthearted reasons like a 'lack of originality', 'excuse to use a ring as a gift' and 'alcohol' could explain it! Females favourite day was Valentines day which could indeed become relevant with the 2016 leap year just round the corner! As another reference point, those of you that are into your social media, will undoubtedly have seen a bunch of sweet and cuddly couple photos with a sparkly diamond chucked in for good measure! Facebook actually release data on the most popular day people change their status to 'engaged' and surprise surprise, it's Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve!
As a side note, social media and tech proposals are on the up with an amazing 15% of women wanting their partner to use a digital device to pop the question! Normally we would take survey results with a big pinch of salt, but we can't argue with the hard data, and based on the number of emails to us, and the spike in traffic on our site in January and February, it certainly seems to corroborate that this is a busy period indeed! All that's left to say is that we wish all the lovely new couples a long, joyful and prosperous life together.
We hope the proposal was amazing and that we (with the help of our fantastic listed suppliers) can in some small way, help make your wedding day the special event you have dreamed about!
Happy New Year!
