Atlasta Cottage, Broadstone Road, Catbrook, Chepstow, NP16 6NG

Cat’s Claw are arguably South Wales’s hardest-working ceilidh band. An energetic and professional unit with over 20 years’ experience, their unique mix of well-known and more unusual tunes and dances brings new excitement to the ceilidh experience. If you want a foot-stomping, roof-raising, rollicking good time, look no further - acoustic instruments creating an electric atmosphere!

What you get is the six of us for the occasion, including the caller, PA and travelling costs so there are no hidden extras, and our aim is to give you and your guests a good time! The sort of music we play is basically traditional dance tunes from wherever we can get them, though we can focus more individually on Welsh, Scottish, Irish or American music and dances if that’s what people want. Our standard line-up is melodeon, fiddle, flute, guitar and bodhran, and we can offer smaller line ups as well, such as a 4 or 3 piece band and caller. We can be quite flexible really, according to what you want and dependent on your budget, so the minimum price quoted relates to the full band - please give us a call for an exact quote. Of course, each line up gives a slightly different sound and we sometimes use different callers, but the overall 'feel', repertoire and danceability is the same...we like to think so anyway!

If you’d like to book us we can sort out details nearer the time – it’s your event, just tell us what you want from the evening (or afternoon, or morning...). We always arrive in plenty of time to get set up (it only takes about 20 minutes) to start whenever you want, and will play for as long as you like (within reason – if we’re still there at breakfast time there’s a surcharge!).

There’s no set format, or length of time that we play for, and we’ll be as flexible as we can – we just aim to make your event fun. Our callers are very experienced at getting people up to dance, and ensuring that everyone can join in by fitting the dances to the audience’s abilities (or lack of!). It’s good for all ages too, and encourages people to mix. We’ve found over the years that keeping things flexible, rather than saying we’ll play for two sets of (for example) an hour each, works very well - no two evenings are the same, and we’d rather fit in with what you want.

"I wanted to say a huge thank you for how amazing you all played at our wedding on December 1st. We thought you were all incredible, and to overall effect was just what we were looking for… fun and upbeat with some classic dances. We loved it and so did our guests. We both thought that was pretty special. Many many thanks."

"Thanks for providing the stimulus for a lively evening. I’ve had loads of very positive feedback. The music, as expected, was first class and the calling got people dancing. Arranging your participation couldn’t have been easier. You clearly knew what you needed, what you were doing and what the event required. Feedback from you meant I had no worries before, during or after the event-a great band"

"Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed having the band play at our wedding. You were really great and it was just fantastic to see everybody up dancing. I know that all our guests really enjoyed the Band - so thank you for your contribution to our wedding day. We have told the hotel that they should add the Band to their recommended list of Bands for weddings and they tell us that they will. "

Rachel and Bethan

"Just wanted to say a quick thank you for your calling and playing at our wedding in October. We had fantastic feedback from our guests; some people that had never tried a ceilidh before, some people who do it often and some people who haven't done it in some time! Everyone enjoyed it and loved the humour from the caller. "

Beatrice and Roger

"Just to say a huge thank you to the band who attended our wedding celebratory party at our home in the Brecon Beacons. A lot of our guests (some of whom are professional players themselves in other ceilidh bands in England and Scotland!) commented on the high standard of your musical performance as well as your ability to inspire them to put their feet on the dance floor without too many mishaps!"
